Browlift Surgery
Wrinkles and frown lines often first appear in the brow and forehead area. A forehead lift or “brow lift” can soften the wrinkles and correct drooping brows to provide a younger, friendlier appearance. A brow lift can be performed alone or with other cosmetic procedures such as a face lift, eyelid surgery or laser skin resurfacing.
BROWLIFT PROCEDURE
A brow lift is typically performed under general laryngeal mask anesthesia. The endoscopic approach, or minimal scar brow lift, is performed using a tiny fiber optic lens inserted through half-inch incisions which are placed behind the hairline. The lens is attached to a camera, which is connected to a monitor screen, allowing for visualization of the surgery. Additional half-inch incisions are made for the insertion of tiny scalpels, scissors and retractors. Your surgeon performs the procedure while viewing the monitor screen and manipulating the tiny instruments externally.
The purpose of an endoscopic brow lift is to stabilize the brows at their original, natural position. Additionally, wrinkles on the forehead and glabella (area between the eyebrows) can be reduced. Asymmetry of the brows can be corrected at the time of surgery as well. The brow position is slightly overcorrected purposely at the time of surgery in order to account for relaxation of the tissues that occur during healing.
With an endoscopic brow lift, loss of sensation and hair loss at the incision sites is minimized compared to the old-fashioned “open” technique where the incision sites extended from one ear to the other ear. The endoscopic brow lift is often performed in conjunction with upper eyelid surgery to achieve optimal results.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF ENDOSCOPIC BROW LIFT SURGERY?
- Small incisions
- Minimal scarring
- Minimal bleeding
- Rare occurrence of hair loss
- Minimal numbness
- Quick recovery
BROWLIFT RECOVERY
The amount of discomfort following a brow lift is minimal. There will be swelling and bruising that may include the cheeks and eyelids. As your incisions heal, you will experience some itching and possibly numbness. These symptoms will diminish over time.
